About

Drawing on Jewish values and history, for over a century HIAS has been there for refugees when and where they need help most. Now, in more than 20 countries around the world, they provide vital services to refugees and asylum seekers and advocate for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives.  In addition, HIAS President and CEO Mark Hetfield will explore HIAS’ Israel emergency response considering the recent invasion of Israel from Hamas in the context of this difficult historic moment

Learn how global democratic backsliding challenges the ability to help refugees and sparks greater numbers to seek safety elsewhere.

Our panel of activists and changemakers features:

Mark Hetfield, President and CEO of HIAS

Since being named HIAS’ President and CEO in 2013, Mark has led the transformation of HIAS from helping refugees because they were Jewish to helping refugees because we are Jewish.

Emiliana Guereca, Founder and Executive Director of the Women's March Foundation and Women's March Action

Emiliana devotes much of her time to advocacy programs for women’s rights, Latino education, and gender equality and has served as the bridge between community organizations and coalition building that spans national levels.

Zoe Winkler Reinis, Founder of This is About Humanity

Zoe's organization raises money for asylum seekers and refugees for legal services & shelter improvements, and hosts trips to the border so people in the LA community can learn first hand about the humanitarian crisis and how to help.

The panel will be moderated by Holocaust Museum LA's Vice President of Education and Exhibits, Jordanna Gessler.
