About

With an unprecedented spike in antisemitic incidents and violence worldwide – including a 48% jump in anti-Jewish hate crimes last year in Los Angeles – it is more important than ever for the community to stand together against antisemitism and hate, safeguard Holocaust history, honor those who survived, and remember those who perished. This year’s Yom HaShoah ceremony will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz.

Holocaust survivor, Mary Bauer, will share her journey from her childhood in Budapest, Hungary; surviving Auschwitz-Birkenau, a death march, and Ravensbrück Concentration Camp; life in the decades following the war; and her hope for the future.

Musicians of the Colburn School, led by James Conlon of the Los Angeles Opera, will perform a piece by composer Alexander Zemlinsky, whose work was nearly silenced by the Nazis.

The program will also include:

  • Karen Bass, Los Angeles Mayor
  • Katy Yaroslavsky, Los Angeles City Councilwoman
  • Mike Burstyn, Master of Ceremonies
  • Rabbi Steve Leder, Wilshire Boulevard Temple
  • Amy Conroy, 3G
  • Priscilla Schneider, 2G
  • Reciting of the Mourner's Kaddish and El Malei Rachamim, led by Ron Galperin
  • The Partisan Song led by Holocaust survivor Henry Slucki
  • U.S. and Israel national anthems by Hannah Mahboubi
  • Performance by the JAC Trio, led by Janice Mautner Markham

Generously supported by Nicole and Allan Mutchnik and Lorena Gonda
