Holocaust Museum LA was honored to work with videogame director and producer Luc Bernard to include our To Paint Is to Live: Art & Resistance in Theresienstadtexhibition as part of the Fortnite Holocaust Museum. Also known as Voices of the Forgotten, the virtual museum for the video game Fortnite Creative, was designed by Luc Bernard and approved by publisher Epic Games. It became available in August 2023.
The launch of the “To Paint Is to Live” exhibit in January 2024, within the Fortnite Holocaust Museum, had the largest number of visitors since its launch in September, with 29,420 gamers visiting in just one weekend. This exhibit reveals the profound role of art in reaffirming human dignity as Jewish victims turned to creative expression to assert their identity, chronicle their existence, and honor their cultural heritage in the face of unspeakable atrocities.
The presence of a Holocaust museum in Fortnite provides the gaming audience access to Holocaust education in a new, innovative way. 67% of Fortnite players are between the ages of 18 and 24. The virtual museum also opens doors for those who do not live near a Holocaust museum.
